by Yvette Price-Mear OLM

Overview
“Just the Funny Bits” is a collection of illustrated, comedic anecdotes. Compiled excerpts from Yvette Price-Mear’s previous books; “Your Mongoose Wants Re-Varnishing” & “There’s ALWAYS Time to Watch the Mice Dance” & “Would Tony Blair REALLY Have Invited Me For Tea…? If He Knew That I (Inadvertently) Took Photographs of Dead Friends”. I hope you’re intrigued by the titles! Just to give you an idea of the kind of (true) family yarns the book contains; 1; My littlest Granddaughter (aged four) said; “Nana, when I went to play at Evelyn’s we SNEAKED into her Mummy’s bedroom and got something ‘very private and special’ out of her drawers that we aren’t allowed to touch”. I hardly dared ask… “It was Lindsay’s machine to make sure that her baby’s heart is beeping”. WHAT a relief!

I hardly dared ask… “It was Lindsay’s machine to make sure that her baby’s heart is beeping”. WHAT a relief! ~ 2, Whilst I was working as a Nurse in Out-Patients at our local Hospital I was taking a history from a rather quietly spoken patient who had a glass eye. And I’m a little hard of hearing. I introduced him to the Consultant as; “Mr H – who lost an eye as a child when he was attacked by a Pelican”. “Sorry to interrupt Nurse” said Mr H. “But I lost my eye due to a pellet gun - we don’t get many pelicans in Mansfield”! ~ 3, My husband Tony was watching a Triathlon on television and I remarked what a good idea it was for the bike riders to have their names emblazoned on their behinds for the cameras to follow. Quick as a flash he replied; “Your bum’s so big you could have your e-mail address across yours” It might indeed be true, but I don’t need confirmation! ~ Sold in aid of Registered Charity number 1104002 (the Pet Bereavement Support Group), three thousand copies of the first three books were sold. An ardent fund-raiser, Yvette has decided to embark upon writing to raise much-needed funds to run the Charity as she’s getting far too elderly to continue fund-raising prolifically as she has done for the past thirty years. And anyway, the joys of being a Nana are now her main priority. Please buy a copy of the E-Book, get a nice cup of tea, kick off your shoes and have a good giggle!
About the author
At only five years of age, Yvette Price went into Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital suffering from Perthes Disease (a disorder of the developing hip) expecting an overnight stay ~ and wasn’t discharged until she was seven! Upon leaving Harlow Wood she vowed to return to the Hospital as a Nurse. This she did aged seventeen but unfortunately had to end her beloved nursing career aged just twenty-one due to becoming increasingly more disabled ~ caused by a curvature of the spine and a very painful circulatory disorder. Absolutely devastated, she decided to dedicate her life to voluntary work. Since then, she has been most fortunate to be recognised for the voluntary work that she started aged just thirteen. In 1990 (aged 29) she was the youngest ‘Midlands Woman of the Year’. In 1994 she attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. In 1995 she represented Nottinghamshire at the ‘Women of the Year Luncheon & Awards’ at the Savoy Hotel in London. In 1997 her ‘Desert Island Discs’ were played (on BBC Radio Nottingham!) and Tony Blair invited her to a Reception at Number 10, Downing Street. In 1998 she won the ‘Nationwide Award for Voluntary Endeavour’. In 2000 she won the ‘Listener of the Year Award’. In 2001 she again represented Nottinghamshire at the ‘Women of the Year Luncheon & Awards’ and in recognition of this, the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council threw a Civic Reception in her honour. In 2002 she had the honour of carrying the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Baton through her hometown of Mansfield. In 2003 she accidentally killed a squirrel. In 2005 she was a recipient of one of the ‘Year of the Volunteer’ Medals. In 2006 she had a further invitation to a Reception at No 10 Downing Street. In 2008 she won the ‘Andy Wallace Memorial Trophy’ for Services to the Community. In 2011 she was honoured by the League of Mercy - which entitles her to have the letters OLM after her name. In 2013 she won the ‘Inspirational Personality of the Year’ in the Chad Newspaper’s ‘Pride of Mansfield & Ashfield Awards’. Her proudest achievement though is in her happy marriage to Tony Mear since October 1981 ~ and the births of her beloved children Rebecca (Reb) in October 1982 and David (Deev) in May 1989. Although they all occasionally drive her to distraction, she feels privileged to be so loved ~ and to be able to live her life as she chooses ~ working full-time as a volunteer ~ purely due to the 100% love and tireless support of her family and friends.
